Brief History

ADOM CLUB BREMAN ASIKUMA LBG emerged in response to the social and public health challenges associated with early and unintended pregnancies among adolescents in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) District in the Central Region of the Republic of Ghana. Its conception and consequent birth emanated from a news item aired on the Ghanaian media landscape on 22nd March, 2023. This relates to the fact that the AOB District has topped the Central Region's 2022 teenage pregnancy tally with 576 recorded cases after having recorded 537 cases in 2021 to place second in the Region.

This concern motivated the creation of the Club which is to be unaffiliated with any government or political party by the four (4) Founding Members namely: Prophet Clement Ofori and his brother Rev. Samuel Ofori, with inspiration by their Father, Dr John Yaw Amankrah and their long-time family friend, Prophet Derrick Boniface Gyau to challenge this status quo regarding the increasing rate of teenage pregnancy in the AOB District. The Founding Fathers adopted a more comprehensive approach to addressing teenage pregnancy to affect public policy and also to provide services to the Community to include not only education and healthcare but also efforts to address underlying social determinants, such as poverty, gender inequality, and lack of access to education. Mindful of the fact that teenage pregnancy is multifaceted, these approaches were further expanded across various sectors to include addressing issues that range from human development, human rights including human trafficking, climate change and environmental sustainability to food security and economic development. Again, recognising that teenage pregnancy is a global issue, the Club extended its reach beyond the AOB District with branches nationally and internationally.

The Founding Fathers also sought to admit Honorary Members as well as Ordinary Members. Honorary Membership shall be opened to persons, either Ghanaians or non-Ghanaians including those in the diaspora, and who due to their national and international achievements, exemplification of outstanding leadership and status in society and who can help the Club achieve its mission and objectives. Honorary Members shall not pay dues but shall diligently promote the Club at national and international levels through their contacts, word of mouth and other means nationally and internationally. Ordinary Members shall be opened to any person who wishes to further the interests of the Club. Such category of Members shall pay dues and are eligible to hold Office as Executive Committee Members who shall carry out the day-to-day affairs of the Club.

This diversity attracted the first seven (7) members comprising four (4) men and three (3) women to join the Club. The Club opted to meet on Sundays after Church and the next meeting of the Club on 26th March, 2023 had 84 members comprising 39 men and 45 women in attendance. Judged by the rate of growth of the Club strategies were put in place to get the Club inaugurated on 29th April, 2023. Within the space of one month from the 26th March to 29th April, 2023 when the Club was duly inaugurated at Breman Asikuma, the Club had registered a total of 210 members with two Branches at Breman Asikuma and Breman Jamra.

With the rise of the internet and social media, the Club have been using these platforms to disseminate information and provide services to its members both far and near. Online resources including chat services have become important tools in its work to contribute to the broader goal of promoting healthy families, improved livelihoods and sustainable development in Communities.
